Coming to Steel Stacks on Tuesday, October 22, 2013

ATTENTION
small businesses in the
Greater Lehigh Valley

If you are a women-owned, minority-owned or veteran-owned business OR if your small business has fewer than 100 employees, this Business Expo is for you!

Your Small Business Challenge

One of the most difficult challenges a small business owner faces is trying to grow their business with larger contracts or through partnering opportunities with large companies. Finding the right contact person within a large corporation or government office is nearly impossible. Knowing which guidelines you must follow to develop a relationship or become qualified to bid can be confusing.

But the Lehigh Valley is working to support your business growth. We're inviting procurement and purchasing professionals from Federal, State & Local governments as well as large private industry companies to meet YOU this October!

The Meet the Buyers Expo offers Lehigh Valley small businesses the opportunity to meet directly with purchasing and procurement professionals to cultivate new relationships and expand their visibility through this exciting one-day event Expo. This is an incredible opportunity to make business contacts that would otherwise take years to develop.

This is your opportunity as a supplier to identify potential new contracting sources and network with buyers and other attendees. You will:

  • Make hundreds of face-to-face contacts in a single day
  • Receive contact information for buyers and contracting officers
  • Meet companies that could potentially become "partners" in preparing proposals and contracts

Remember, it is unrealistic to think that you will get a contract based on a 15-minute conversation - but this Expo is an important tool in your procurement process. Opportunities like this do not happen every year! In fact, this Expo only happens locally every 2-3 years.

Why is this important
for your business?

In addition to meeting buyers and contracting officers from government and local large companies to discuss business opportunities, the Meet the Buyers Expo will provide educational sessions. These educational seminars will be held both prior to the Expo and during the Expo - giving you critical information on how to successfully make contacts, market your business and follow the proper regulatory channels to do business with the various government entities as well as large corporations. We'll help you learn how to ask pertinent questions and find out what an agency or contractor is looking for and how to qualify.

Pre-Expo Seminars will help prepare you to make your best presentation to buyers. These seminars will be held in April, June, July, September and October. Check the "Seminars" tab for details.

This Expo is being coordinated though the efforts of the following 12 Lehigh Valley community agencies. They have been working for more than a year to bring you this important opportunity.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Will I get business at the Expo?

No, not usually. You will have a 10-15 minute meeting with a Buyer. A short meeting does not create a buying relationship – it's just a start. However, you will come away having spoken with a representative at the target office or business and you now have the proper contact information. It is up to you to pursue building the relationship that could lead to a sale!

Will they call me back?

This type of event is the first step in your marketing efforts with the companies you contact. You will need to follow up periodically – without being too intrusive. If the company doesn’t have an immediate need for your business' products or services, when the opportunity arises they will have your name and contact information.

What should I bring with me?

Please be sure you arrive at the Expo with the following materials:

  • Business Cards
  • Business Capabilities Statement
  • Elevator Speech
  • A Prioritized List of Buyers You Want to Meet

How should I dress?

While many business expos are business casual, you should consider this Expo to be a sales call and dress appropriately. You can never go wrong when you dress in business attire.

What is included in registration fee?

Registration includes entry to the Expo and the educational workshops. You must register prior to the educational workshops in order to attend them. To keep the event affordable for most businesses, the networking lunch is not included with the registration fee. If you would like to attend the networking lunch after the Expo and continue to network/mingle, there is a combined rate of $45.00. In order to receive this rate, you must register prior to October 15, 2013.

Why do I need to provide my NAICS codes and a brief company description?

As a benefit to you, this information will be provided to all the Buyers in attendance. This is another way to help increase your company’s visibility with government, large corporations and other organizations even if you don’t meet directly with a particular Buyer. You must register prior to October 15, 2013 for your information to be included.

Who are the Buyers?

Buyers are purchasing agents or contacts from various Prime Contractors and government agencies looking to buy products or services from small businesses.

What is a Prime Contractor?

A Prime Contractor is a large business that actually contracts with a federal agency. These contractors generally receive contracts over $100,000 on a regular basis. These are the companies that small businesses should be talking to regarding sub-contracting opportunities. Examples of Prime Contractors are:

How will I know which Buyers are attending?

Go to the “Buyer” page on this website to check and see which agencies or companies have registered. This section will be updated periodically as new Buyers are confirmed. You can begin to plan your day by determining which Buyers you would like an opportunity to meet.

How do I meet with the Buyers?

Although you can’t schedule a time with a Buyer in advance of the Expo, each Buyer will have a sign- up sheet the day of the expo, divided into 15 minute increments. A pre-Expo walk-through is available for small businesses from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m to reserve a 15 minute meeting in advance of the official Expo start at 9 am. Throughout your stay, you can continue to sign up for any unreserved times with the Buyers between 9:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.

Who is sponsoring the Expo?

Funding for this event is being provided by: First Niagara, ESSA Bank & Trust, PNC, Air Products, PPL, National Penn Bank, Capital Blue Cross, and Wells Fargo. Our Expo trade sponsors include: Snyder Technologies, CMorganelli Designs, Berner Design, LV Business, and LM Group.
